There's one person standing in the way of Republicans doing the right thing when it comes to taxes, and that's Grover Norquist. He has a virtual lock on GOP tax policy. But, one Republican Senator is finally standing up to machine. Msnbc's Lawrence O'Donnell has more in the Rewrite.

If cutting taxes for the very rich was supposed to create jobs then why hasn't it happened during the four years of tax cuts under President Bush and the last two years under President Obama? If you want to know what caused the financial meltdown in 2007-08 just take a look at the Gramm-Leach-Bliley bill of 1999. It literally reverses the Glass-Steagall act of 1933 and allowed banks to gamble away their profits and your savings as well. Then look at which parties were behind these bills.
damn straight, so very true
Just flipping the tv and ran across this show, OMG the most stupid show on TV
nothing but lies lies lies and what an ass this host made of himself
You all need to find someone that can make people intrested in watching or at least good at telling untruths. LOL lame lies and borning!!!
Offer some logical arguments, not just the emotional rants of the mindless dupe you appear to be.
keep flipping the channel, fox news is on there somewhere
We need jobs...now. Where are the jobs. I don't care if they come from the Dem or the Repub....just give us good job and then the spending cuts wouldn't be necessary.
Okay, how's this?: Any American company or its subsidiaries that has off-shore workers must by law pay its workers US wages AND benefits.
Failure to do so will mean a loss of access to the US market for their products and/or a tariff equal to wages not paid.
That would cause companies to think twice about Bangalore or Nodia.
A company I worked for in Madison, WI even outsourced its sales force to India, and trained them to acquire 'American accents'. They were paid $5 thousand a year.
Extremely wise and analytical observation here, kindly please share it with the world,it might help.
Lawrence said this evening that Grover Norquist sends a "No Tax" pledge to Republicans. That is half-right because he also sends the same pledge to Democrats also. The one Norquist sent out in 2007 had a word spelled wrong. Without signing it, I made lots of copies to hand out to friends for a laugh. What wasn't so funny was when he sent out another one just after a major disaster in our state when a tax increase was being considered.
Extremely analytical observation, please ALWAYS share with all your contacts, any and all info. coming from this brilliant and analytical commentator.

The tax credit discussed in this segment is not for the ethanol industry. The tax credit is called the VEETC. The VEETC does nothing to support the ethanol industry. It is a tax credit taken by gasoline producers that reduces the amount of the federal gas tax, that is collected by the gasoline retailer, that is then submitted to the government. It amounts to a 4.5 cent / gallon of E10 subsidy to big oil and is worth more than $6 billion this year to the gasoline producers.
It is amazing how partizan lawrence is, he sure enjoyed calling Trump a lier over and over again. His prize bull in the race, Obama has consistently lied during his election campaign. Unfortunately this lier a their god a they can not upset him by making his lies public and make Obama defend his own flip flops. Flip flop is a mild term for what Obama is doing. Why not try to find your male genitalia and do a fair story regarding Obama's Lies
MSNBC has done a pretty fair job at comparing what "Candidate Obama" said on various topics (Gitmo, Unions, Bush Tax Cuts) versus what "President Obama" has actually done. You obviously don't watch or you just aren't paying attention; sort of like the day that they were teaching how to spell "partisan" and "liar".
Good one. <LOL>
EVEN to this day foxnews refuses to say anything bad at all about gwbush. msnbc has critisized Obama more during the first month of his presidency than foxnews ever has or will about gwbush,
Republicas, not all of them, including democrats, and liberals like Liberman has lied so much that today these politicians can not distguish the truth from a lie....Live example,Donald Trump.....In his own mind,he believes he can turn a lie into truth by agreement which is not so.......It just turns into a bunch of liars. The wind blows, and the sun shines.....We are fortunate among us are true patriots, who truly represent our constitution, and our flag that it stands for FREEDOM,LIBERTY,AND JUSTICE.........America is one nation under god.Glad Manning is moved to to a prison in the state side.Keep in mind, there is a big, big, difference between a traitor, and a whisle blower......
Politicians make a very fine ethical distinction by saying "I don't vote the way I do because they give me money, I vote the way I do and then they give me money if they like the way I vote." Yet, they always check with gatekeepers like Grover Norquist before they vote.
I listened to your diatribe last night about Dr. Coburn on ethanol subsidy. You finally found a topic that YOU should take a stand for all to hear.
If you have the courage to enunciate the following Congress should enact legislation to choose whether alcohol (ethanol) is a food or a drug.!
Since tobacco , alcohol's clone has been sanctioned to F&DA for all its failings, alcohol deserves EQUAL OPPORTUNITY! Your believe in that at least. I dare you to do that.

Keep up the good work! Donald Trump should be ashamed of himself for leading the people on thinking he is going to run for President. His life and all his x's would be an open book. He brought his companies to bankruptcy only to buy back cheaper. Will he do that for our country too.
We need more taxes that are fairer taxes. And we need fair trade too.
Right now the tax code is over 60 thousand pages long thanks to lobbyists like Norquist and others.
If we really care about jobs AND social justice, here's an idea: Any US company that has off-shore operations must pay its foreign workers US wages, or lose access to the US market and/or pay tariffs equal to the fair wages not paid.
Yikes. Good-bye Nodia, Bangalore, and Shanghai. Or maybe it would be the best thing that ever happened to those workers, and to ours as well.
It is amazing how a well thought out presentation is degraded by the supporters of the right wing agenda. Most likely they spew character assinations without any well designed counterpoints. Do the call Beck or Limbaugh liars and LOL at them? The should.
Lawrence ... you're a bona fide asset to MSNBC. What I find refreshing about your TV shtick is the obvious understanding of the often byzantine legislative process and its rituals AND the ability to ask succinct questions and let your guests answer ... fully. Melissa Harris-Perry BTW is a keeper. On your Grover Norquist rant ... I for one would be fascinated to hear examples of how Norquist enforces his pledge. How and where has he dropped the hammer (not DeLay, necessarily) on wobblers and offenders? What gives him his disproportionate influence? Good job.
Grover Norquist's organization reports that they paid him over $220,000 dollars for 20 hrs work per week. Being a 501c3 organization, it doesn't have to report the source of the funds that pay Grover a salary that less than 1% of Americans will ever hope to make. $220,000 for 20hr/wk. Nice work if you can get it.
I don't usually disagree with you, especially on Rewrite, but it takes no political courage at all to side with the fossil fuel industry against your ideological brethren. When one lamb strays for its own safety the shepherd can always bring it back.
Energy is the key issue of our time. We live with an artificial scarcity based on caveman assumptions, which the industry wants to maintain for its own profit.
But we don't have to be cavemen. Instead we can be farmers. We can harvest the abundance all around us. The Sun shines, the wind blows, we live on a molten rock. There is no energy shortage. Just a shortage of technology and capital to bring in the crop. A shortage Coburn, Inhofe, and every other Republican will do all in their power to exacerbate.
The time has come for man to become truly civilized, harvesting his energy as he harvests his food and the clothing he wears.
You are a complete ass.
Praising this ass who is owned by big oil is ludicrous.
If the republicans, and some democrats would have their way.To find or get a job we'ed all have to move to either China or India........
Former President Ronald Regan's intentions when he loosen the regulations on corporations was entended for them to do what is morally, and ethically right thing to do.Unfortunately, today is a perfect example that such entities both corporate, and government will always have people with selfish motives.......Lawerence O'Donnell,I applauded you for your bravery in exposing GROVER NORQUIST,AND THE CONTROL HE HAS OVER THE POLITICIANS........Very selfish group of people, and the question I have for them is,who is in the front line protecting their asses????????Excuse my english.
